Web Hosting NIGHTMARES!
My first hosting providers (back in '93 up to '98) were hosts like Angelfire, Tripod, and Geocities (hahaha) - of course that was when I was a teen and the internet was VERY much an infant (back when we were initially learning HTML from WebMonkey.com). In 2001 or so I decided, as per advice from a friend, to purchase my first paid hosting, who happened to be 1 and 1 Internet (I'm sure some of you will have mixed reviews of them). I stuck with 1 and 1 for some time (a little over 4 years), moderately satisfied with their services, and really liked their custom control panel. Uptime was good, but the services were only moderately satisfying because their customer service was terrible, and their speed seemed to get slower and slower by the year.
In 2005 I decided to try other hosting. I tried Sleekhost and Readyhosting - both of which managed to have more downtime than imaginable, one of the two managed to stay down for over a month, wouldn't reply to my emails, answer my calls, and eventually notified me that they lost all my files off their server and "accidentally" deleted my database. But they waited over a month before they told me what had happened (and most of it wasn't just MY stuff, but I had clients who I had hosted on that space as well).
In the latter portion of 2005, I decided to move to Lunarpages - a refreshing change! They gave me a good amount of space and bandwidth at an unbeatable price. The problem was, they suckered me in. The "good price" was only good for the first year, to new customers - it was a "special offer", which I didn't realize when I signed up (they didn't make it evidently clear). After my year was up, they wanted to charge me over double what the previous year cost (first year was about $65, after it was up they started asking me for $145 to renew).
