AMD Opteron or Intel Xeon ???

Well just to see how you people go for server should you decide to
either get a new one or further expand your hosting business. Intel Xeon or AMD Opteron?

Opteron tends to use less power than Xeon. However, Xeon will have more performance over Opteron.

A 4-socket server will either be a 16-cores Opteron or a 24-cores Xeon.

Xeon Dunnington which will be coming out later half this year will include 6 processing cores per chip.

I prefer Xeon for the simple reason, of the cache.

Unless you are a hosting business which is concerned about going green, and plan to use it as your niche... or you are co-locating and only have a limited amount of electricity left... I wouldn't worry about the Opteron using less energy. if you can afford the Xeon, I'd always go that route. Xeons have always been well trusted enterprise grade CPU's in the hosting industry and will continue for any conceivable time in the near future.

The [8-Way] Quad-Core AMD Opteron 8354 seems to be powerful if you are able to afford it. It is more powerful than most, if not all of the Intel CPUs.
