Web Hosting Comparison Site - any ideas?
I'm currently looking into setting up a comparison site for webhosting and was hoping to pick your brains a little...
Has any of you come across a really good site? And if yes, what stuff did you found useful/not useful on it?
In my opinion a lot of sites were dominated by sponsored listings and therefore weren't really helpful.

findmyhosting uptime tool for the hosting provider and user reviews are important.

Try to actually buy hosting accounts from them and provide honest reviews. Original content is the best way.

andre is right, I think you should give priority on word of mouth or recommendation from your friend whom you trust later you can check their general reviews.

I would not believe any web hosting directory or comparing place. Its all about money. Try www.mybadhost.com as they actually signup for web hosts and then report back.mybadhost.com As far as I can see they do not take any money like most all of the hosting directories do. I can guarantee you that we have been contacted by numerous ones to get on the top spot for $3200 a month?
How is this honest?

whreviews is a great review site. Anyone looking to set up a hosting review/information site should give his site a detailed review.

colorteck, you're right that these things tend to be dictated by money. I read somewhere how it's usually the highest paying affiliate schemes that get to the top in the end, and I certainly see this applying to some host review sites out there (though not all).
Personally, I would look for how long the host has been around (via the internet archive), their pagerank, and how many days is in their money back guarantee. Oh and just asking friends of course!

This points may help you while choosing the host:
Reviews, recommendations, Customer service, reliability of the network, features, price, Email response time, Professionalism and quality of their website, ranking, support etc.

I really like how webhostingunleashed(dot)com does the hosting reviews. Provides a lot of information regarding each hosting provider.

Word of mouth is good too. I have heard some horror stories about hosts that have awards and number 1 written all over their site and rank high in reviews. But to be fair for every bad story I have also heard a good one. Sometimes everything is fine until you have to contact the customer service team to get a problem sorted out and that's when you find out that they have zero commitment to customer service.
