I'm going with DDR ram, but what is the real difference between ECC Registered and regular ram? I want to put a gig of ram into my system, but $430 for ECC Registered is insane. I can get a regular DDR 1 gig stick for about $100. Why such the fuss, and whats the differnce? Will I notice a different in my server?

Go with the ECC if you can afford it. If one little chip has a problem, the ECC can map around the errors and still work. Your total available ram will drop a bit, but it will still be functional. Now a 1 gig stick non ECC, has a chip go bad, it will bail out and not work, therefore causing your server to probably crash.
I have a 1 gig DDR ECC Registered stick in my machine, and I'm glad I did it.
