advantages to cpanel/WHM
From my past experiences as a customer, I have used many different control panel's in my search for good web hosting, and from a customer point of view, there are many advantages to using cpanel/WHM that I think alot of hosting providers don't think about..
WHM comes with a script, I've never had access to see it before, but they call it an "IP transfer" script..
this allows the hosting provider, to basically transfer an account from an old hosting provider, to the new hosting provider, by simply providing the old IP address.
This only works if both the old, and new, host are both using CPanel/WHM,
but it does make it easier on the customer by having the hosting provider transfer the site over to the new host for them..
That way, the user won't risk loosing anything during FTP transfers,
or having to ask how to transfer mySQL databases over, or what if they have email they want to save?
anyway, for those web hosting providers out there who are trying to decide on what control panel to use, I just wanted to say why I, as a consumer,
prefer Cpanel/WHM, its definitely worth the cost, it really does make the users life so much easier, especially when u have to transfer over a bulletin board, or a blog, or a CMS system that uses mysql, it basically transfers everything over for the user, so all their email accounts, email filters, FTP accounts, mysql databases, etc, are transferred over too. really simplifies the process of changing web hosting providers
just my 2 centsLast edited by bubazoo; 04-29-2006 at 07:07 PM.

I agree
Yes, I agree with your statement.
Cpanel & WHM is indeed the best Control Panel I ever used/experiences. It's very straight forward.
Btw, I know that we can do transfer using Cpanel but I never know how. Can u explain the IP transfer method?
I want to learn too.. Sounds dead easy.

Its simple.
Go to backup
Then go to Generate/Download backup.
Then in drop down box select FTP Transfer (or words to that effect)
Then in the text boxes, enter:
Remote Server (ftp/scp only): (the ip address)
Remote User: (basically the user you want to transfer the backup to. Just the username)
Remote Password: (Password)
Then click Generate Backup
Simple

I agree
As a web host running cpanel/whm I must say I have been very satisfied, I have used other control pannels such as plesk and have not been satisfied with there capabilities, they do work some time but not in the full feaure wise as Cpanel and is not as easily navigated, I do think that more people are used to Cpanel than others as well.
I must say after using Cpanel I will not change to anything else unless it 10 times better. I have been looking into directadmin but am still not sure that it's what I want.
So I agree Cpanel all the way.

Taking the advantage of the opportunity I'd like to share privileges of using cPanel:
- Its very easy to install, just install Linux and run the installation script, it will configure most of your server automatically!
- Cpanel provides a very easy visual interface where you can manage your server. There are several panels that are meant for administrators, clients, and even email users. There are also very easy to follow tutorials posted on CPanel’s website for those users who may not know where to start!
- Cpanel automates most of the hosting experience which reduces stress on the hosting company!
