my housemate just bought these. They plug into the wall socket of your house, and then you can plug another one in anywhere else in the house, and plug the CAT5's into the adapters, and the data runs over the power lines.
We use it to get out to the garage, as the WiFi doesn't reach strongly enough.
The rescritions are its only 10, not 10/100. And can only be used on the same phase. So no street wide connections.
Still, its amazing whats still being invented.

these have been around for a while now. I'm not really surprised. I mean, the data just needs a medium to travel over.
