Question about open source project hosting?
I own ultimabb which is a new and open source forum software. it is currently hosted for free on a dedicated server but the issue is that all attempts to have the server updated or root access granted has failed. This is bad for a few reasons such as security, stability and growth of the project that me and my group develop. We pay nothing for the hosting which is great it would seem at first but it provides more of a hindrance than an ability to expand with the limits put on it. if the server crashes we have no one to fix it and we cannot do it ourselves.
I am sure that people are always asking for free web hosting but I am not really asking that but more along the lines of looking for resources to help. The project is not for profit so we have zero funds indeed and I cannot afford dedicated server hosting and would not dare move such a project to a shared hosting environment.
I have to find a solution to getting off the server we are on now though and moving to something fast and well maintained that will allow our project to grow without holding us down due to database size etc.
Does anyone know if any web hosts who cater to such projects and help with free hosting for open source projects such as mine?
Any and all feedback or comments are welcome and appreciated.

I assume no one is aware of such a thing. Thanks for letting me post on it though

Free hosting is hard to come by. I would try to get a grant or some other form of a loan. This way you could pay for a dedicated server. Or you could let yourself be bought by a hosting company and they might host you.

loans and grants are not an option and I will not sell the project. Thanks though.

The only thing i could offer you, is a shared account. Let me know if your interested. Also try and get donations.

I appreciate the offer but I made it clear that shared hosting is not what I am looking for and I can manage my end of things. Donations do much of nothing in a new software community and cannot be relied on. I would prefer that answers pertain to my questions specificaly. Thanks.

Is your script popular? If so why not offer old versions for free and offer the newestfor a set ammount of $10 or so like PHP-Nuke. Then when the next release is ready put that version free and get payments on the newest version again.
Just a thought.
