looking for a good-enough $5 web host
I apologize if this isn't the right forum. I couldn't find a better one. I'm looking for a $5 web host that is good enough to use for personal/hobby and light business. It doesn't have to have the greatest tech support in the world or work for ultra-mission-critical applications (obviously, at that price).
I've seen quite a few in this range, but here are the features I'd like to see:
- less than $6 per month, preferrably $5 (paid annually)
- at least 15 or 20 GB of transfer (most of which I won't use most of the time)
- at least 1 GB or so of space
- satisfactory tech support for major problems, but does not have to be ultra-responsive
- CGI, PHP, the usual
- some major software ready to install, including blog, bulletin board, and e-commerce
- shared SSL
- reasonable though not necessarily stellar uptime (i.e. not 98% or something)
- reasonable though not necessarily stellar speed
- weekly or preferrably daily backups
A few I've seen -- Exabytes, Dot5Hosting (iPowerWeb reseller), SpeedFox, BeTheHost (not sure about the SSL), SurfSpeedy, Webhost4life (not sure about included software), Incognito Networks (not sure about the SSL), ViscoLink (10 GB transfer), ZZ Hosting (not sure about SSL), HostingU, eDataRack ($3-$4 for tons of space and bandwidth, but no backup), Web,com (not sure about SSL -- replace the , with a . as I'm not allowed to post a "URL"), MarbleHost (over $6), Host Excellence (not sure about the software), Hosting Zoom (only for 24 months upfront), Brinkster (no CGI, etc.), IX WebHosting (no SSL). I'm sure there are others. My needs aren't that great; what I'm looking for is the flexibility to add a little more in the future without having to switch plans.
Thanks for any advice.
[edited to add a few more things to the list]
p.s. This is silly -- "Your Post contains one or more URLs, please remove them as you don't have enough posts the minimum required is 5 before submitting urls so please remove them and re-submit your message." I have no URLs in the post -- only a mention of Web,com (replace the , with a .).

Thanks for the reply. You all don't appear to be up yet, so it's hard to learn much more about you. Do you have any other info about your services?

Thanks for the replies, guys. I will look into these offers. Maybe I'm not in the right place to get user opinions as well, but I was also hoping someone with experience as a customer might chime in.
As for HostFused, your site says you launch October 31 and I can't find much about you. I realize it's not a huge investment but I'm always more comfortable with some feedback from someone who isn't selling the product or service.
Jarrid -- I just looked at XiHOST but it does not appear to provide what I asked for. In the $5 range, it provides 500 MB and 10 GB per month of transfer. I'm not suggesting that's a terrible deal; it's just not what I requested. Thanks for the response though.
GamePhreak, Zephyr has some good deals. I especially like the number of domains allowed. Does that come with shared SSL? I may mention one of the other plans to a friend of mine.

rjnsmith, that looks like an enticing deal. I will look into that one as well. Any way you can give me some assurance you guys will be around for the long haul? (Also, if you plan to keep adding customers, do you have a plan in place to provide enough resources for everybody? Some companies bite off more than they can chew. My other concern is with the unlimited bandwidth. How do you plan to keep people from abusing that offer?)
Thanks again for the replies!
As I think I mentioned, I'm looking for myself but also make recommendations to friends. At the moment, the friend who's looking is looking for something pretty similar to what I'm looking for.
Kooshin, thanks for moving this to the right place!
