Redhat 9, Well, depends on what your going to use it for actually, I run Redhat 9 Enterprise on all three of my hosting servers. So far its been nothing but good to me.

Redhat 9 is outdated, use centos, it is a free clone of redhat 3 enterprise

Well it depends what for.
In the end if it is a server you need to be reliable then RHE (Red Hat enterprise) is the best as you pay so the support is better. If you are going for budget the CentOS is better.
However bugs will be fixed quicker in RHE and the support will be better. So RHE is better as you have to pay.

We all get used to what we are using and accustomed to it, and when they take it away from us or no longer support it we all get confused, hehe. I agree RHE is the best to go with primarly for the support, but centOS is just as good, but like Tris said if there is a bug chances are RHE will have a fix well before centOS will. Not that there are ever bugs in our O/S's 8-)

In the end there is not much difference, so many people see it as a bonus to go with CentOS. The problem is when your customers come and you say the operating system is CentOS you may see a confused look on their faces. However if you use the "big name" in Linux RedHat then they may have heard about it

I would go with CentOS at this point. RedHat 9 is quite outdated now. RedHat Enterprise is also an excellent alternative, but much more costly. CentOS is a great system; based on RedHat, updated regularly, and extremely stable.

Both my servers run CentOS 3... I find it a tad bit more stable, especially if you compile your own kernel. RH9 is a bad choice, as it is very outdated right now... and might leave your system open to security problems. Redhat enterprise is quite expensive if you ask me...
