Is there anything we cant do in php that can be done in CGI?
Who sees PHP to be the leader in the future?

I was using C++, and C as an example... Sorry man... I don't really know C++ too well, and I've never even attempted C... :'( I wish my brother was here... He can code anything in C++... either him or his friend Sean...
That's Sean's website... I haven't been there in ages, but I think he may be using his C++ skills again... :P
btw... I do know web-based languages though... i.e. - php, mysql, asp, asp.net, ado, ado.net, etc

mod_perl and PHP can run neck and neck from what I've seen personally and from what I've heard of other peoples' experiences with the two. I think they'll share the top spot. Unless PHP gets on track with version 5 and actually introduces some serious guns in its arsenal, I won't be switching to it any time soon though. Variable scoping and OOP are a sorry state in PHP, and that alone is enough to keep from using it heavily. Add to that the impressive array of modules on CPAN, and you've got yourself the hands down winner in my book. Of course, PHP does have it's place - especially where simpler syntax is a must and rapid development is important. Perl is a fairly convoluted langugae, no doubt. It's also not quite as fast for development since it's not embedded. Still, it's got more than enough power to make up for those two minor shortfalls.
As for ASP.. I'm sorry, there are ASP programmers? Huh? ASP Servers? People use that crap? I'd rather code CGI apps in COBOL!

to me... there is nothing better than CGI, but due to its complexity, PHP is my route.... next to ASP and .Net
