Same as a dedicated server, control wise but less things to worry aboutSeeksadmin - For all your administration and security needs.

A VPS is the same as having a reseller account except that you have more control.

IMHO having vps gives you more control and it also 'prepares' you to have a dedicated server. You learn things along the way as you can install stuff.

Managing one will be no easy task though, if you are making the switch from a reseller account where your host used to do everything for you (I speak from experience). Make sure the VPS is a managed one, with good support.

^ True. For managed VPS solutions I suggest going with Rus at vpscolo.com. He is very knowledgable and very helpful. There are other great providers like dinix.com, as well.

VPS is a great kick start before going dedicated....Helps get your feet wet, also good for those who want to host items for good uptime but without paying for a dedicated.
