Personally I believe Dell is better, though thier support is outsourced to India(I have nothing again them, but I feel an Americain company should support the Americain economy by giving the jobs to Americains), if you ask to speak to an Americain they do transfer you.

Cant give you much info about IBM as they hardly seem 'visible' in the market here in Singapore.
I'm currently engaged as a first level pc tech for a school. They do have Dell machines there, hasnt caused much problems for me or the users.

However, it is always best to make your own, or get a tech to make you one. 90% of the time the computers are cheaper and faster (better parts for the same price). A lot of time with pre-built computers they have shared ram, which means your 512 RAM suddenly is really only capable of 256mb. But that is more of the computers that you find in retail stores (FutureShop/Circut City/Best Buy/Walmart)

The best is to make your own because Lets say you have a Pentium 4 3.06Ghz Proccessor with dell you will find that they have cheap bulk mother boards and a slow front side bus FSB But when you buy your own montherboard you can get ones that have 800 FSB speed witch will give greater Performance as the speed information goes through is faster to and from the CPU.
Dell Is affordable and a good option for design and Quality although Performance is the main issue they could perform much better with a quality motherboard.
Any questions on Pc Parts or buildiing them Just PM Me I work as a PC Technican.

I have only gotten Dells for many years, I have had nothing but success with them and will continue to buy from them for that reason!
