What is the best free network monitoring software

Hello Peeps

I have been using whats up gold but have just got to the end of my free trial and just looked at the cost Dont think I will be paying that lol

What is the best Monitoring software to use and that is free can be linux or windows.

All I need it to do is have a webpage that I can have loded up on my pc that will up date and then send me an email if there is a problem.

I would like to here what you have to say

www.alertra.com is one that I know off

Mine isnt really ready yet I am waiting for the second version to be made before I release it as right now it says httpd is down if the load on the server is high...
