clients per server
Hi,
How many accounts you will approximately put on one server?

Its not really determined by the amount but rather the usage of each account, if I know specfic accounts are just static html pages, I will put more of those types on one server than if I know the accounts are php/mysql intensive.

I fill the server to 70% resources
thats around
70% - bandwidth
70% - space
70% - CPU usage
I always leave 30% of everything
bandwidth - incase someone needs more or wants more
space - for backups or if anyone needs an upgrade of space
CPU - It is usually miles below 70% with this but you if it ever gets to 70% I will stop everything on the server.
I want to keep performance of the server high that is basically the reason for it

Tris is 100% correct.
It's most likely to leave that 30% on the server so your server dosent seem to slow down or crash with an overload.
So just leave that 30% left and you'll be all sorted.
Warm Regards,
David

Thank you for agreeing with me.
There are 2 types of host, well at least, you can put them into 2 catagories
[1] You fill up all the space and bandwidth and oversell. This can cause problems with the DC, server loads can be high, server can be slow etc. The only advantage.. more profit per server
[2] you leave some space and bandwidth. Some resources basically. The server will be fast/normal speed. You wont have unhappy customers as they will all get what they want. Which can lead to more customers. Disadvantage well profits arnt as high but think of the happy customers

An often asked question, the only *right* answer is it depends entirely on what the sites/accounts/users/server require/can handle.

It all depends on the capacity\resources of your server. You can't put 150 clients with heavy traffic into a 1.4ghz server without lagging.
Well I know I wouldn't.

one server i own has 17 clients on and for me it is full. People may say what you must be jocking. Well the server is 80 GB HD and 1000GB BW.
So far I offer my customers:
30GB space
800GB of Bandwidth
They only use
19GB space
751GB bandwidth
But it is full. There is one VERY popular site which can spring loads up to 15 at certain times in the day. And that is with all the stuff I have installed. It can send my stuff haywire SIM, PRM everything.
I wont add anything more on the server beacause it is already stretched. It is not even making much profit to be honest. It is making $50-70 per month (I wont give exact figures). But I prefer to make customers happy and give them a good service rather than get a large profit

I doin't think any of our servers are over 50% utilised, however some hosts will go as far as 90%, the ones that just cram accounts on until they can't fit anymore just aren't worth mentioning as they won't be around long enough to worry about.

Tris, isn't CPU usage a bit too dynamic for that?
I think I've got like 35 clients (that server is full), and on another server I've got 2 clients, and it's almost full... This is to give an example on how variable this can be
