This is like dejavu...
I would say most get clients from word of mouth. It's one of the most powerful forms of advertisement. Then there is the everfaithful form of banner adds and such, but often this isn't as successful as normal word of mouth. A lot of people get clients from posting offers on such forums as these.

Word of month is proberly the most common formof advertisement, getting a client is simple keeping them and providing a good service is the hardest part.
Most other methods are proberly forums, people posting offers etc.

Quite frankly, word of mouth is quite overrated, IMO.
It does work...Most of my customers (if not all) are from word of mouth, but that doesn't mean you'll get a tonne of a customers by word of mouth....I guess it all depend on the person who's spreading the word...If they have some friends who might be interested in web hosting, you may have better success.

Word of mouth is deffinelty the way most people get their customers. If you have happy customers they tell their friends.
Put it this way. If your friend came up to you and said
"I found this brilliant host you should try them?" and you have a site which says "host with us we are fast and secure" You are going to try the one your friend has tried already if you have a mind
