We have our own server we would like to know if it is possible to run another, completely seperate website with a defferent domain name on the same server?

Yes, it is possible, but if you want to know we need to know more about your system and server, eg. apache

I'm interested in how this works as well. My site's domain resolves into the same IP as my host. I used the nameserver information that my host told me to enter, but I'm wondering how does it know that www.dartbored.com should go to crappyhosting.com/~persay?
I tried googling for this but I'm not even sure what it would be called... I'm guessing it's just a simple redirect of the ns1.crappyhosting.com, but I really don't see how that can happen when 100s of other people are probably using the same name servers?
