Whend do I need dedicated IP

When do I need dedicated Ip, Can I use shared IP forever?. Hosting experties any suggestions?

One instance in which a dedicated IP address is required would be for the use of an SSL certificate. Another would be for the use of Anonymous FTP. A dedicated IP will also be needed in conjunction with server hostnames I believe.
