any recommend on which shell/telnet program to use (for windows) to access my account which sits on a unix host? i need to chmod a lot of files. thank you!

If you are using cPanel on your server, you will need an ssh program. I recommend one found at http://www.ssh.org. As far as telnet, use the one built into windows.
Go to Start
Run
telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (or domain name)Brian Pauley

Yes, we always recommend putty to our customers.

i agree with putty thats the software i use when working with linux / unix shell. You may also telnet into a server using putty along with other protocols that are supported
