Why this BIG difference ?
Can anyone explain me this?
Why hosting companies like lunarpages or ixweb hosting have plans of 250/300 gb for 6.95$ a month and other companies for the same exact price only offer 500 mb / 1 gb
Also i wanted to ask you if you had any experience with ix web hosting and / or lunarpages ?
Their plans are quite tempting but there must be some disadvantages .. .
Thanks a lot

Disk space and bandwidth allocations are not all you're purchasing from a web host. There's also additional software availability and/or compatibility. The quality of the host's network/hardware, backup and restoration provisions, and of course customer support.
The biggest mistake I see people make when searching for a hosting provider is only looking at those 3 things--price, disk space and bandwidth. In my opinion this is the reason so many people end up posting threads with titles like "searching for host...AGAIN" on forums like this one over and over.
You have to look at what's important to you when choosing a host. If you're only hosting a personal page for fun, than price/disk/bandwidth may be all that matters to you, but if you're trying to launch a site for business, ecommerce, or that will grow as a community then you should also look at whether the host has been around for a while or not. Make sure they have a proven track record for stability. Remember, your host is kind of like having a technical partner to assist you with the online aspects of your site/business, so taking the time to find one that you feel sure will be there for you when you need them is vital--and should also be considered as a value when you're comparing pricing.
See what other professional business clients are saying about them. Ask questions to judge their support quality and speed. Make sure they have options for you to grow and expand as your site needs.
Anyway, I hope some of this is helpful to you, and explains how some hosts factor the value of their services and support into their pricing. While it may look like you're getting less, you can actually be getting a whole lot more that you haven't thought about in the long run.

Well, I am a contracted worker for Lunarpages so I might not be the most un-biast person to go to but I do think they have a lot of great things to offer. I have been more than impressed by the support team as well. I would say at least contact them, talk with them and see what they can do for you.The Web Hosting Show - The Voice of the Web Hosting World

Its called overselling. Providers sell more space and bandwidth than they have available and hope you dont actually need to use that much. If you do come close to using what they offer you, they will more than likely shut down your account for misuse.

Yes a lot of hosts do oversell (they have to in order to keep up with everyone else) the real test lies with how they manage it and make sure no problems arise because of it (good planning and forsight)
hostgator is a bit more than some of the other hosts and they claim they do not oversell.

yes, there are definately the differences in the pricing of the companies because of the support and the services they offer to the clients. An ICANN Accredited Domain name Registrar - OwnRegistrar.com

Well your best bet is to go by word-of-mouth ... check what your peers have experienced with host A and host B, compare then chose. If someone got a bad experience with a host like "I lost all my data the week after I signed up!" this is likely to be happening again so stay away.
I dont believe in the whole support / service / offering thing and the you get what you paid for popular sentences. This is too easy to justify a host having prices low or high. It is way more complex than that. You could pay $25 a month for the same plan someone else is offering $10 a month but still have a good balance of service or even better than the one at $25.
I think that it all lies in the host's experience, buying power, etc. A host that has to pay less for his infrastructure will be able to offer you the same product at a lower price than the host who would pay his infrastructures for a higher price. This is just an example.
Walmart is cheap... but who can say they always bought bad products there ?
My 2 cents.
