Bluefish is by far the most powerful among the HTML editors we tested. It is probably the most potent editor for Linux in general

I'm going to try and use the plugins for the default Gnome text editor. If you look HERE there are loads available and I just love it's uncluttered appearance.
I was surprised how powerful gEdit is, and missing Notepad++ from windows, think this is the answer.
Anyone used them? Love to know your thoughts

I have to agree with the earlier posts that bluefish is an awsome editor for linux. But if your looking for a WYSIWYG editor, I am not completely sold on any of the linux alternatives yet. Several options have been mentioned but I usually just use dreamweaver on windows running in VirtualBox to be honest.

I'm pretty much a minimalist when it comes to Linux, so my vote goes to VIM. It will do highlighting, autotab, etc with minimal effort.
I still code all my sites, and work strictly with this, even on my Mac I use VIM for modding stuff. Once you fully embrace it, you'll find it hard to use others.
