well for one I've only seen windows firewall protect once otherwise it lets things in all the time (its gotten better overtime).
HowStuffWorks "How Firewalls Work" this should help you understand them better.
Also if your looking for a personal firewall there are so many free one's out there

Although windows have their own firewall inside, i wont recommend you to rely on it. You still need an anti virus like avira, kaspersky, norton, etc

You better AVG or some other total security for windows. Firewall is not itself just enough for windows protection.

Well, Firewall work like wall against the unauthorized activity against your computer and protect your computer.
Like any person can try to stole data from your computer than firewall protect that.
Actually firewall always keep on eye on all incoming and outgoing packet of data every bit and bytes. it scan all data very fast like in bunch.
and if detect any illegal activity than block that and save your computer.
I think you satisfied with this.

A firewall is a barrier to keep destructive forces away from your property. In fact, that's why its called a firewall. Its job is similar to a physical firewall that keeps a fire from spreading from one area to the next. so it helps our computer from various viruses.
