Have Banners Been Effective for You?

I've read a lot that banner advertizing isn't taken seriously by the majority of mainstream advertizers, but still can't give up completely the idea of using banners and experimenting with then. I don't have a lot to be proud of - I mean one one banner can perform better than another, but I've never been happy with either performance.
So I wonder if you use banner advertizing and how successful this is in your case.
Can you share any good sites and blogs with tips how to improve banners performance.
What's considered to be a good CTR?

It depends on how striking your banner is. If it's a very attractive banner, and the message is catchy enough, it will generate higher CTR.

In Traditional Online Marketing banners are supposed to be channel for branding but past two years banners are part of perfomance marketing too.
I think text ads are better then banners.

Relevancy is the key. No matter how good your banners are, if you put at wrong sites, the result definitely is awful. I recommend you try advertising through content network on Google Adwords. It is a cost effective way to advertise your banner. But do not simply run the ads using keywords, you should carefully pick good websites to put your ads.

Banners are really important but at the same time they should be displayed on a site which potential customers might visit. For example having a banner on a food recipe site want do good.

Right, banner advertisement may be helpful for getting traffic if placed on heavy traffic website related to your niche, though you will have to pay good value for them.

Yes, that's true, banner advertising is an effective method that will help you to get good amount of traffic and provides visibility to your website. As evan have said, it could be much expensive so, if you are able to spend a lot of money on advertising it will definitely help you in effective ways.
