Well it depends on where you are, what your volume is, etc. We have a merchant account ourselves since we are located in the United States. 2CO would not be cost effective for us at all with their discount rate.

With the companies that you mentioned, you will usually always locate people who have had problems because the companies are rather large and have a pretty giant customer base. The more customers you have, the more chances you have of something going wrong.

I myself have a problem; Paypal dosent support withdrawing funds to Israeli banks and I live in Israel, so otherwise I plan on buying something online with my Paypal account the funds I have there are useless.
2checkout is good and efficient, I use it for a few months and it worths every cent.

PayPal seems to be pretty good. A lot of people feel safe and secure when paying with PayPal while entering their credit card informtion on a seprate website like 2checkout can be a bit sketchy.

I totally agree with this, Gator. I think that's 1 of the big issues. But I guess when we talk about people's money, what they take in consideration is the past experience, and PayPal has a LOT more than the other corp. that i don't even remember it's name
I guess that a GIANT publicity job can do the magic

Most people prefer paying through PayPal. But this doesn't mean that you can neglect the importance of something like 2CO. If you accept only PayPal you will definitely be narrowing your customer base. A good has both PayPal & 2CO payment options.

I hate 2CO. They charge too much. I now use PayPal and a merchant account... it was from e-onlinedata.com/psoft. They had a pretty good deal going at the time I signed up with them. There are a lot of other real merchant accounts which are cheap.

I use paypal for all my online paying also. When I looked into 2CO, it did look a bit expensive for the small volume I was doing, that was awhile ago though, I don't know the current rates.

I have used a few other payment processors with good experiences, but I'll leave those for another topic

We are having good experience with both, however I think most of the ppl prefer paypal due to free paypal account so going with paypal might be a wise decision depending your location.

as a customer for many years, and going thru many different hosting providers over the years, I don't even consider a host if they don't accept paypal.

reason being, the hackers who setup their own reseller hosting businesses just to take peoples credit cards. I mean, I am sure there are plenty of hosting providers here who don't do such activities. However, one can never tell for sure...

Its not like buying from Godaddy, Google, Amazon, or some place you know is reputable, alot of times people goto a web hosting provider having no clue at all how long that host has been in business, rather the host is in the US, or in isriel, , so when it comes to billing you can never be sure who is reputable and who isn't.

I say, go with paypal, because thats basically what consumers want.
you'll get more business if you offer both, or if you can only afford one
just go with only paypal, that way your covered either way.

I got my credit card # stolen a few years ago from a bad host, and I know from my personal experience I will never go with a host again that doesn't offer paypal, because it took me a long time to get all that straightened out with my bank. Since I used a Debit card to pay with, the charges were being taken directly from my checking account, which was a bad idea I know, but thats why I prefer paypal now, because you just never know.. In fact, with browser hijacking going on these days from the spammers, you never know if, say, amazon in your address bar, is really amazon, IE is nutorious for that, and I am sure the LAST thing any customer, or even sales rep would ever want, is to have your companys bad name dragged down because some spammer hijacked your site to theirs. I see it happen everyday these days,

so for me, its paypal, or nothing..period.
I don't care how 'good' the plan is, it can be something rediculous, like,
a dedicated server for $29 a month, I don't care, if the host does not accept paypal, I go somewhere else without giving it a second thought

hehe, besides, if a host ever did give away a dedicated server for $29/month and didn't accept paypal, first thing I'd be thinking is "yeah right they just want to steal peoples CC#'s thats WHY their prices are so low" see what I mean? it gives the company a bad rep right off the bat.
