SSL certificate
SSL Certificates stands for Secure Socket Layer certificates.
SSL Certificates are absolutely essential for any website collecting sensitive information online.
1)SSL is a Secure Socket Layer protocol which is responsible for creating secure communication between client and server.
2)This is done by both server and client authentication and the consultation of an encryption algorithm and cryptographic keys.
3)This helps show that your site is secure and is trusted so that clients are dare to make secure transactions through your site.
4)If you will be accepted credit card payments online, then a Comodo SSL Certificate is right for you.
It is very necessary to install SSL for ecommerce websites. good luck.

Thanks for sharing
I would like to add one more point...
you have two options when it comes for SSL certificates... it's shared SSL and dedicated SSL.
Usually your webhost may offer you shared SSL certificate adn if you want to have your personalised certificate then you will have to get a dedicated SSL certificate. Cost varies form provider to provider...
