I think it can be useful feature but only if the company youare going touse is the trusted one.
Most attractive are the free domains with hosting from accredited registrars, such as sibername.com.

Yeah, I believe poplar's post makes sence, in terms of getting domains from accredited registrars for free considering also recieving quality hosting for reasonable price at sibername.

If the domain name is important to you check the details of the offer first. "free for life" probably means for the life of your account with that provider - check what happens to the domain name if you ever leave them. (i.e. who ultimately owns the domain name, you or them)

i agree with poplar, you need to be careful with the host as some just register the domain under their name, in which case technically you are free to use THEIR domain name for the life of you account on their server.
i once registered a domain with an hosting package and after i moved hosting it took me 2 months to get my domain. it was only after threatening to take the issues to icam that they finally gave me my domain (which i actually paid for, not a part of a "free domain with account"); since then i've never used a hosting company to register domains with

Most of the provider do charge for the "free domain" when you subscribe to their hosting packages. It is counted in the hosting price you have to pay. So.. depends how you want to state it clear to your customer.

The "free domain for life" is nothing more then a marketing gimmick to convert more sign ups for the web host.
I choose to keep my domain names and web hosting separate. I use companies that specialize in domains to entrust with my domain names and use companies that focus predominantly on web hosting for hosting. If a web hosting company goes sour on me, I don't want to be put in the situation were it is a battle to obtain my domain name from the problematic web hosting company.

Host offering domain names for free must have stable position and be trusted whichmeans certain popssibility of troubles with domain transfer or further selling, that is why I shall agree about getting domain named and hosting at one place is most reasonable with accreditd registrars, particularly sibername.com.

I believe that is good option. But you need to be sure that domain name belongs for you and you can transfer that anytime you want
