Domain Value and Is this Legit?
I would like everyone's or anyone's opinion on a reasonable price for a domain name.
I have a small company that runs with a dot net domain. We have been going along fine but now, the supposed owners of the dot com have offered us the chance to 'bid' on the soon to expire dot com. They claim it is premium and are offering us first chance. (I say supposed because how do I know if they are legit?)
Any input would be greatly welcome on this matter! I truly have no idea what would be reasonable. Our company does not make a ton of money and anything over $40 would be like forget it. But if anyone can enlighten me as to how to find out if these people are even for real, it would be great!
The name of their company is 'InTrust Domains'. Based in Boulder Colorado.
Thanks!

Legitimate companies offering these services use an independent broker/escrow service to handle the transaction. You deposit the agreed purchase price into escrow, the seller releases the domain to you and then upon your confirmation the trustee releases your funds to the domain company from escrow.
In relation to what is a reasonable price, it depends on the perceived marketability of the domain name. However, it has been our experience that such domain resellers ask a minimum of hundreds of dollars for .com’s.
You have to work out how much it is worth to you. I do not think it would be offered for under $40.
Best of luck.Regards,

Ah. Your response is much appreciated. I had a feeling they were seeking a price way beyond our means. And yes, I suspected it was a 'broker' type situation as well.
I am very grateful for your willingness to share your knowledge with this newbie!
Thank you.
