I think .COM extension is the best. It is most recognized extension and quickly catching up.

If you are looking for domain name registrar, I can suggest you sibername.com because it is honest company which has many accreditations and offers affordable domain name registration. And if you are interested in starting domain reseller business, they offer nice terms of reseller program, so contact them directly for further details.

Domain names
If you are looking for domain names then godaddy offers you the paid domain names. choose .com for global market and .in or .uk for regional.
Some websites provide free domain names like CO.CC - Free Domain name registration + Free DNS service..

No I think this guy wants to own his OWN LTD like .widget or .bob . He wants to be able to create his own LTD address. I know you would need to contact ICANN. They have to vote on it and trust me they are going to be getting a cut of anything you sell if you can even convince them to create a new LTD which is about impossible.
Now I can tell you if you have your own server on a local network you could create what ever LTD you wanted like .local or .bob (which is common on networks) and your DNS would point to it. But only LOCAL clients on your network would be able to access it. Anything out side the network would not be able to connect to that address unless you had a redirect with an external static ip pointed to the domain LTD you created.

That would be near impossible. Though as ChristJJ said, you can create your own extension in a local network. Many companies do this, .corp for example.

Erm......could you be a little more specific?!
If you want a domain name for yourself, then just go to a domain name registrar like godaddy.com and buy yourself a new domain name with a .com .net or .whatever.
If you want to make an extension of your own.......then I'm sorry I won't be able to help you.

Maybe it is very difficult to creat your own extension in a local network if you wish. You can buy a domain name from domain name registrar according to your needs.
