    Search Engine Optimization Tips

    Search Engine Optimization Tips

When trying to optimize your Web site for Google, or
having somebody else do it for you, you might notice
that a lot that you are told to do or read to do
sounds stupid. I have worked at a Web hosting company
myself and I spent many days and nights fighting with
the SEO expert. Now that I am a little more educated
on the field, I will have to admit he was right ninety
    percent of the time.

I can not lie to you, much of it is confusing and does
not make much sense, but it does work. Now that does
not mean you should trust just anybody with this job.
There are lots of folks online just ready to take your
money because of all the confusion surrounding the SEO
community. Have no fear though, I have a few tips
that will hopefully get you on the right track to
getting your search engine placement elevated a by a
    few numbers.

Search Engine Optimization Tip #1 - META Tags Are
    Useful!

Most novice Web page owners usually ignore META tags.
If not because they think they are not important, then
for the reason that Google does not use them. Shame
on you! Many other search engines spiders (with the
exception of Google) still read META tags.

Make sure you include META keywords. Don't over do it
though. A good judgement of volume would be around
ten keywords or 128 characters. In your META
description make sure you keep your keywords towards
the beginning, and make sure it sounds like a real
    sentence.

Search Engine Optimization Tip #2 - Use Your Title
    Tag!

Most people just put the name of their Web site in the
title tag and leave it at that. Then they rinse,
lather and repeat on every other page they create. Of
course there's nothing wrong with this, but you are
not using your title tag in the best way possible.

As with your description, make sure that you include
keywords towards the beginning of the title. If a
keyword is not the first word, that is okay and
honestly a little better for you. Keep your title
anywhere from five to ten words long.

If you feel like it is time to stop on it, then stop.
Your own judgement is usually the best. Also, make
sure it flows well and doesn't just sound like you
tossed in a bunch of keywords. This could get you
penalized by the search engines that are spidering
    through your content.

Search Engine Optimization Tip #3 - File Size Matters!

One of the most important things you can remember
about search engine optimization is that your file
size for a Web page document should not be too big.

If you can, try to keep the size under 20K or 25K.
You also want to make sure you have more actual text
and page content than you do HTML code.

Many search engine spiders can get choked up if they
have to plow through too much HTML to get to the real
meat and potatoes of your Web page.

And I'll add what I feel is the MOST important part of SEO, serving the customer and writing your pages for them, NOT for the search engines. Over time, this is a learned trait, and you have to play with it, but it makes no sense to stuff your pages with keywords and header laden keyword tags if it is virtually unreadable or un-understandable to your visitors. Failure to write for your visitors is failure to make sales, which is what you started you web site to accomplish to begin with, right? Stick to writing for your visitors. In the end, you will realize decent search engine rankings and increased sales from your efforts.

I stopped believing in the content is king sentence a long while ago. Marketing is king.

I would tend to agree ldcdc, but not all of us have Microsoft's, Google's, or Yahoo's marketing budgets nor do we have the cash for the paid inclusion thing. Personally, on that note, I've NEVER paid for inclusion yet, but you'll find my articles ranked in the top 10 results. Do a search for Canspam Act and you'll see what I mean. It might not be MY web site, but it's got a link back to my site on that page.

Well I don't like using paid inclussion and things like too. Yes articles are a good way to get free promotion without spending anything. In fact there are a lot of websites which use your articles but you don't know unless you make a search and you will get a list of sites that you didn't submit your article to and that means it is useful and free promotion
